DIY BUG SPRAY

Every picnic needs bug spray but the smell of those bug sprays can ruin the summer picnic vibe. If you like the idea of a natural bug spray this one has done well for us! You may add Palo Santo Essential Oil as well to deter ticks better. With an all natural bug spray, you shake well before spraying it and apply often. I also will spray down the blanket if I am feeling extra ;)

DIY BUG SPRAY

16oz Spray Bottle
20 drops Lavender
20 drops Eucalyptus Radiata
12 drops Purification
30 drops Lemongrass
8oz Unscented Witch Hazel
Fill remainder with Distilled Water

Optional: Add 30 drops Palo Santo to help ward off ticks

I prefer these glass spray bottles, but had also found these plastic ones that are more toddler safe. My only complaint is that they don't spray as well as the glass so from here on out, I'll just stick to the glass spray bottle and maybe find a silicone sleeve that fits it!

If you live or travel in an area that has a higher risk of Lyme Disease and plan to go in wooded areas, using a bug spray with DEET or Picardin is not a bad idea. Why? Because it lasts much longer and Lyme's Disease is an awful disease. I can't find good evidence of health concerns if used properly and not used every single day. For instance, you may be only able to spray on one application every 12 hours and not many of us go into the woods every single day for a hike. You do want to use this as directed though and keep away from kids and pets. You don't want your kids handling it and then licking their fingers - yuck!

My family opts to use this bug spray recipe or the Clinically Tested Insect Repellant from Young Living for every day use as this year is a bad year for ticks where we live. (Use my member # 2069867 in the enroller and sponsor spaces to ensure you get placed within my team so I can send you happy mail and have you as part of our Young Living Family!) We use the DIY Bug Spray here at home on the patio and in the yard. We use the YL Insect Repellant when we are out at ball games, cook-outs around trees and parks that have woods around them. I also just found out yesterday that two friends of my neighbors both had a tick bite from this area and they both tested positive for Lyme's. It is not something I want to mess with as I have watched many friends suffer for years. Prevention is key and checking your body for ticks every 4 hours while outside is a good idea. The longer the tick is attached the more risk you have for contracting Lyme's Disease if it is carrying it! I did read online that it takes 36 hours of a tick being on you to contract the disease it is carrying but I'm not gonna chance that. Tick checks for everyone!

Bottom Line: Use something you feel comfortable using and check yourself, your kids and your pets for ticks often! When on a picnic, create the summer vibe with this DIY Bug Spray!

Pro Tip: You can even put a few drops of Palo Santo on your pups collar so they are deterring those ticks while out in the yard. My Jack Russell Terrier got a hair cut and a rub down with Geranium, Lemongrass and Palo Santo the other day LOL she looks and smells so good!
