DISH SOAP
I know, I know...the
bubbles make us think our dishes get "clean". What about the Sodium
Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) that creates those bubbles? Is it a big deal? Do we
actually need the bubbles? Dr. Mercola wrote a great article on this, you can
find it here.
SLS and Children
"In children, SLS
has been linked to eye irritation and poor eye development. Even at very low
levels, the product may be absorbed through the skin and cause issues with eye
health. It would seem that children’s products should be scrutinized more
closely, but often they are not. A number of studies have indicated that SLS
will remain in a person’s system (Brain, Heart & Liver) for up to 4-5 days
which means if you are using a non SLS free product at the same volume and same
rate of application then Sodium Lauryl Sulfate will remain a constant in your
body." (source:SLSFREE)
Since my focus today is
on DISH SOAP, I have looked up a couple common dish soaps that I have seen at
friend's and family's homes to find the toxicity ratings:
Dawn Dish Soap, Original - Toxicity Rating: D
Method Dish Soap, Grapefruit - Toxicity Rating: D
SUN, Citrus Energy Oxy - Toxicity Rating: D
AJAX Triple Action, Orange - Toxicity Rating: F
I was shocked at formaldehyde in AJAX! Sheesh. Our favorite hand dishwashing soap is now Thieves Dish Soap. No, it doesn't bubble and foam the way most other dish soaps do, but you are using a safe product. It cleans your dishes just as well as the other soaps and has a citrus scent from pure, essential oils!
